Gone to the birds

This spring and summer have seen a lot of birds at the feeders (mixed seed, Niger seed and a hummingbird feeder).  These are the species that have visited us so far this season:

  • House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus)
  • American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis)
  • Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)
  • American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos)
  • Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina)
  • Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus)
  • Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris)
  • Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis)
  • White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis)
  • Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis) ‘Slate-coloured’ variation
  • Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata)
  • Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens)
  • Hairy Woodpecker (Picoides villosus)
  • Rock Pigeon (Columba livia)
  • Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)

As I spot other species, I’ll add them to the list.

  • Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)
  • European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
